Kath and Bill purchased the Bushlands Pet Retreat business and rural property in July 2017 from the original business founders, Jean Hydleman and Ralph Edwards.

Kath has worked with animals most of her adult life as a veterinarian. She graduated from Murdoch University in 1984 as a veterinary surgeon and later qualified as a veterinary behaviourist with Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, Veterinary Behaviour Chapter.

Please note that Bushlands Pet Retreat is not a veterinary clinic and Kath is not registered to perform acts of veterinary medicine. Pets requiring veterinary treatment will be transported to our preferred veterinarian, Harradine and Associates, Bunbury or your own veterinarian if agreed prior to boarding.

Bill is not a veterinarian! He's an electrician and knows the difference, however he's a long time owner of cats and dogs and before moving to Capel, was a Pets Of Older Persons (POOPS) volunteer, walking dogs in his spare time. He spends his time between the pet retreat and the Ludlow tuart forest where his is helping to restore the forest, the mill and the settlement. ludlowtuartforest.org.au and is a Capel Land Conservation District Committee member.

Our kennels and cattery are located on a 40 hectare rural property in Capel, Western Australia, just near the town centre. The property was first surveyed in November 1920 by the Department of Lands and Surveys surveyor, M. Terry as a Crown Grant block and It still retains the majority of remnant native vegetation described by M. Terry in his survey field book No. 379. 

It's a nice place to board cats and dogs, and a nice place to live and we back onto the 94 hectare Capel Nature Reserve and adjacent public open space.

We also have a Parks and Wildlife wetland on the southern part of our property (lot 5164 on the sketch) and in 2018, we signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, outlining the responsibilities of both parties. They won't complaint about our barking dogs and we won't complain about the relentless frog calls!

Just to be clear. The old Capel Rifle Range on the western side of our property closed a long, long time ago!
